Tompkins Transportation Scout is a new initiative designed to improve access to transportation services and multimodal trip planning throughout Tompkins County.
Our Mission
Our mission is to ensure that every resident—from seniors and people with disabilities to those lacking internet or smartphone access—can easily connect to essential services and opportunities.
We are committed to:
- Expanding Public Access: Offer comprehensive information about local and intercity mobility services, including support for non-English speakers. Ensure that Tompkins County residents living in both urban and rural places have access to transportation to get them where they need to go.
- Enhancing Safety & Customer Service: Provide a user-friendly app to plan routes, navigate safely, safe navigation, and the best possible client experience.
- Increasing Mobility Options: Work with individuals facing transportation barriers to come up with personalized and innovative solutions.

Demonstrates county-wide, on-demand mobility options—particularly in underserved communities—to guarantee fair access for everyone. - User Data Analysis
Uses data to determine transportation gaps across demographics and geographic regions. - Accessibility Compliance
Adheres to ADA and WCAG 2.0 standards, ensuring a fully accessible experience for all.

Funding and Support
Tompkins Transportation Scout was made possible thanks to a Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Integrated Mobility Innovation Demonstration Program grant. Awarded in August 2019, this funding supports the development of our multimodal trip planning program, information call center, and smartphone app—all working to enhance connectivity for the entire community.
